The Orton-Gillingham (O-G) program is a multisensory, individualized approach designed to help struggling readers. For my final DLD2 project, I am hoping to understand some of the O-G strategies through the lens of Speech Language Pathologists. Specifically, I hope to both understand and critique one of my past O-G lesson plans based on the literature we discussed in class. Through doing so, I hope to improve the O-G program I will deliver based on research evidence. Also, when I was trained to deliver the O-G program, I have learnt to deliver the program at a Tier-3, one-on-one level. So for my final DLD project, I am hoping to turn one of my O-G lesson plans into a practical Tier-2, small class lesson. I am also considering how to best employ the SLP and teacher ‘co-teaching’ model to deliver this Tier-2 program.

5 specific goals

About this project

Here are 5 specific goals I hope to achieve with this project:

- To provide evidence-based rationale for teaching techniques used in an O-G lesson

- To comment on my past O-G lesson plan using recent research literature

- To re-design my O-G lesson so it is appropriate for a small class setting

- To identify possible resources that support Tier-2 O-G classroom teaching

- To suggest specific ways to promote SLP and teacher ‘co-teaching’ at the Tier-2 O-G classroom
